Tips on how to keep your air conditioner clean

Are you having trouble with your air conditioning system? In our hot climate, air conditioners have become an almost indispensable part of surviving the day and once you own one, it’s hard to imagine life without it. So the frustration you feel when your air con starts giving you trouble is completely understandable. Sometimes the problem is minor and something you can sort out yourself, so before you call us in to service your aircon unit; do some simple maintenance on it first:

D.I.Y Maintenance tips

    • Change the air filters: As with any appliance that goes through temperature changes as it works, residue dirt builds up and needs to be collected in the filters. Changing the air filters ensures that the system remains unobstructed from the inside.
    • Clean Condenser: The condenser is the heart of your air conditioner, so if it’s clogged up with dust and debris, the cool air cannot be pushed through the air vents. With a soft-bristled brush you can gently clean the condenser, or if you have a blower, you can just blow the dust and debris off.
    • Straighten Condenser fins: With time and the constant temperature fluctuations, the metal sheets, known as fins – bend, which also restricts the airflow through the system. Using a blunt object, you can gently straighten the fins out to ensure optimum airflow.

Keeping your aircon well serviced can save you both in replacement and operating costs, and it’s often wiser to schedule regular servicing with professional and competent teams, rather than tackling the job yourself (particularly if you have two left hands)!

If your air conditioner isn’t working as it used to and since winter is now upon us, now is the perfect time to ensure that your aircon unit is working as efficiently and quietly as it should. Schedule a service today and extend the working life of your aircon beyond tomorrow.
